Starting primary school is a big step for children and families. Our school runs orientation and transition activities to help your child feel ready for Kindergarten and to support you as parents and carers.

Before your child starts Kindergarten
Important Information for Families
Before your child begins Kindergarten, it's important to share with the school any information that will help us support your child’s successful start. This includes details such as:
- medical conditions or allergies
- learning support needs
- family circumstances that may affect your child’s start
We want every child to feel safe, supported and included in school life.
Kindergarten orientation and information sessions
Our orientation sessions help children:
- meet teachers and classmates
- explore classrooms and playgrounds
- practise simple routines
Parents and carers join information sessions to learn about daily schedules, uniforms, lunches and communication. If you need an interpreter, let us know.
Kindergarten 2027 Parent Information Meeting
We look forward to welcoming our Kindergarten 2027 families to the Parent Information Meeting. During this session, we will share details about the upcoming KindyStart Program and provide plenty of time for questions. We are excited to support your child’s transition to school!

KindyStart Program Sessions
KindyStart helps children become familiar with Narooma Public School, meet teachers, and connect with future classmates. The program consists of four one-hour sessions held weekly.
When: Families have been emailed session times. These timeslots are the same for all four weeks.

Meet The Teacher Session 2027
We invite all incoming Kindergarten students and their families to our “Meet The Teacher” session.
This informal session offers families and students the chance to meet their teacher, explore the new classroom, and ask any questions before school begins. We look forward to welcoming our newest students!
Date: Monday, 1st February 2027
Time: Anytime between 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm
‘Do Drop In’ Session – Kindergarten 2027
We invite all incoming Kindergarten students and their families to our ‘Do Drop In’ session.
This casual session gives families a chance to visit their child’s classroom before school starts. Parents and children can see where bags will be stored and meet their teacher. Please note that these sessions do not include any planned activities.

Kindergarten’s First Day of School
We are excited to welcome our new Kindergarten students for their very first day of school!

More information about start times will be communicated with families closer to the day.

Getting ready at home
You can help your child get ready by encouraging independence and routines. Try:
- packing and unpacking their school bag
- dressing themselves and practising hygiene
- following simple routines at home.

What to expect in Kindergarten
Learning and development
Kindergarten follows the NSW curriculum. Children build early skills in literacy, numeracy, creative arts, health and physical activity, science and technology. Learning through play also supports social, emotional and academic growth.
Daily routines
Children learn routines such as morning arrival, snack and lunch breaks, lining up, using bubblers and moving safely around the school. Teachers guide children as they settle in, but practising at home helps.
Best Start Assessment
At the start of the year, all Kindergarten children take part in the Best Start Assessment. This is a friendly, one-on-one activity where teachers learn about your child’s literacy and numeracy skills. It is not a test and needs no preparation.
