Drop off and Pick Up Procedures
Morning
All students are to be dropped off and enter through the school gates. We have two Pedestrian Crossings: one at the front of the school on Montague Street (Front Gate) and the other at the back of the school, on Bluewater Drive (Back Gate). We encourage everyone to use these gates and crossings for best practice road safety.
Buses will drop off at the Montague Street bus stop for students to enter via the Front Gate.
The morning bell will ring at 9:10am.
Afternoon
There are two bells in the afternoon:
2:50pm Bell signals it is time for students to exit the classroom and walk with a teacher to the gate or bus line they will be leaving the school from.
2:55pm Bell signals the end of school.
We kindly ask that parents and carers wait outside the school and be mindful that classes will still be in session until 2:50pm. Students can be collected at either the front gate on Montague Street or at the back gate on Bluewater Drive.
Due to WHS issues, families should enter the school through the pedestrian gates only. Children are never allowed to walk through the car parks as a means of entering or leaving the school. Please use a pedestrian crossing if you need to cross the road to get to your vehicle and avoid parking in bus zone area on Montague Street.
Catching public transport
Public transport is a great way to safely get to and from school.
Catching a bus
Many of our students travel to and from school by bus. Bus passes are issued to these students after an online application is lodged. School travel is only available between home and school for school attendance and is available on school days only. Student safety and well-being is covered by Transport NSW Code of Conduct issued to all students applying for a bus pass.
It is strongly encouraged that Kindergarten children do not use the bus until they are happily settled into a routine and have had their bus safety lessons. It is important that they are picked up by a caring adult to begin with.
For information around bus routes and timetable schedules, please contact Symons Bus and Coach Service.

Walking and riding to school
Walking safely to and from school
Many children enjoy walking to school for its social, independent, and outdoor aspects. To keep them safe Transport for NSW recommends:
-
Under 8 years old: always hold your child’s hand when walking on the footpath, in car parks, and when crossing roads.
-
Ages 8-10 years old: supervise closely near traffic and when crossing roads.
-
Ages 11 and above: regularly remind them to be responsible pedestrians by:
- walking on the left side of the footpath
- watching for vehicles entering or leaving driveways
- keeping mobile phones and earphones away to avoid distractions
- using designated crossings like pedestrian crossings, traffic lights, or school crossings
- walking facing the traffic if there are no footpaths
- showing respect to other pedestrians.
Riding safely to and from school
Riding a bicycle, scooter or skateboard to and from school is a fun way for children to stay active. The department encourages students to safely ride to school if the school and parents/carers consider it safe. They need to take into account the road traffic surroundings and Transport for NSW's safety recommendations.
Narooma Public School follows the guidelines set down by Transport for NSW, which state that children under 10 years, are not physically mature enough to ride safely to school unsupervised. Students from 5-9 years of age may only ride their bikes to school if accompanied by an adult. Please remember that by law, all students are required to wear a helmet.
